Zainab, My Love (1)

I fled down the street with my feet barely touching the ground, why? I was being chased by a mad girl brandishing a stick over her head. Why was she chasing me? Simply because I had told her that I loved her and this was the fourth time she was chasing me to split my head open! Must her response to my advances always have to be this way?

“Mama! Mama!” I cried out in terror as I neared my house. “Mama, open the door!”

My mother rushed out in alarm and just then, I tore past her into the living room. She turned to look for why I was running and just then, Zainab my crush appeared, fuming. I hid behind the curtain and peeked out at her through the sitting room window. “Mama, don’t let her in o! Block her!” I said, panting and getting ready to flee through the back door just in case Zainab got past my mother.

“You again!” My mother shook a warning finger at Zainab. “Now, get out of here!” My mother shooed her but Zainab kept fuming and refused to leave. “bia, Zainab, do not let me pour water on you o… disappear from here.

My mother clapped her hands and tried to scare her away. Zainab was not one to be easily scared off but eventually, she pointed her stick at me through the window and signalled to me that she was going to get me next time then off she went. The moment she was gone, I regained my confidence and walked with a swagger outside and my mother gave me a disgruntled look.

“Bia, are you mad? Won’t you leave that girl alone? This girl will injure you o!”

“Taaa mama! Big boy like me. She likes me, that’s why she’s always chasing me!”

My mother scoffed wickedly and said, “Likes you ehn? Don’t worry, next time that girl chases you to this house again, I’ll make sure she uses that stick twice on your head before I come to your rescue, may be then, she would have knocked some senses into you.”

“Mama, forget it, nothing can happen. That girl is dying to hug me.” I said as I took off my shirt and began to fan myself with it. I was seventeen years and was in SS3. My mother gave me a death look, turned and returned into the house while I sat down to think of another approach to woo my mad crush.
